When Spiritual History Reveals a Deeper Need

At the Neighborhood Christian Clinic, we believe true healing happens when you treat the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.

That’s why our providers are trained not just to assess physical symptoms, but to ask deeper questions—about emotional burdens, personal background, and spiritual well-being.

And it’s also why we created the Whole-Person Care Curriculum—to equip Christian healthcare providers around the world to integrate faith into medical care in thoughtful, prayerful ways.

Here’s one powerful story that shows why this matters.

“Do you think it’s because I sold my soul to the devil?”

A young man came into the Clinic with a range of symptoms: dizziness, weight loss, fatigue. He’d already been seen at the emergency room—but no physical cause was found.

At the Clinic, a volunteer physician took not just his medical and social history—but also a brief spiritual history. He learned the patient wasn’t involved in a church and was overwhelmed by anxiety and darkness.

What the patient said next caught everyone off guard:

“Do you think this could be because I sold my soul to the devil a few years ago?”

But instead of being shocked, Dr. Paul responded with peace, Scripture, and truth. He shared Romans 8 and reminded the young man that no power of darkness can stand against Christ.

He asked if the patient wanted freedom through a relationship with Jesus.

He said yes!

The Transformation Was Real

Weeks later, the same patient returned—not anxious or restless, but calm, smiling, and full of peace.

His symptoms had resolved. His heart had been healed. His life had changed.

This is what whole-person healthcare looks like.

This is how we win healthcare for Christ.

Training Providers Around the World

This story is just one of many we use to teach providers how to take spiritual histories, listen with discernment, and share Gospel hope with patients in distress.

In a broken world, wise counsel may include not just medicine—but Scripture and prayer.

That’s the heart of our Whole-Person Care Curriculum—training Christian healthcare professionals to bring faith and healing together in every exam room.
