Celebrating National Mustard Day with faith, flavor, and a whole lot of heart
At first glance, mustard might not seem like a front-line hero in healthcare. But this humble condiment—and the seeds it comes from—have been used for centuries for their medicinal and nutritional value.
And on National Mustard Day, we couldn’t resist digging in.
So… Is Mustard Actually Healthy?
Yes! In fact, mustard seeds and mustard greens pack more health benefits than most of us realize:
-
Anti-inflammatory support – thanks to compounds like selenium and magnesium
-
Heart health – rich in omega-3s and antioxidants
-
Cancer-fighting potential – thanks to glucosinolates, also found in broccoli
-
Digestive aid – mustard encourages healthy digestion
-
Blood sugar support – early studies show potential benefits for those managing diabetes
-
And… it’s low-calorie and full of flavor!
While we don’t prescribe mustard at the Clinic—we do believe in simple choices that support whole-person health.
A Little Faith Goes a Long Way
Of course, mustard means more to us than just a condiment.
Jesus used mustard seeds to describe faith:
“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed… nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:20
At the Neighborhood Christian Clinic, we see that kind of faith every day—sometimes in the patients who come through our doors, and often in the donors, volunteers, and providers who make this work possible.
It doesn’t take a lot.
Just a willing heart.
A generous hand.
A prayer offered.
A gift given.
🌭 So This Weekend…
As you enjoy your burgers, brats, and summer BBQ, we hope you’ll think of mustard—not just for its flavor, but for its reminder:
Small things can bring big healing.
Mustard may not be medicine—but compassion is.
And we see your compassion every time a patient walks through our doors and finds care, hope, and peace.
