Answering God’s Call to Serve at NCC

When you ask Paul Theisen how he came to serve on the board of The Neighborhood Christian Clinic, the story starts with a providential friendship.

“I met Dr. David Tellez years ago, but in 2023, God gave us a unique opportunity to grow close,” Paul recalls. “Dave and his wife, Anna, moved into the apartment attached to our home for eight months during a major home renovation. We shared coffee, conversations about life and faith, backyard games of fetch with Lucy the dog—and a lot of early mornings talking about the Clinic.”

Those mornings were more than casual chats; they were seeds God was planting. “During that season, the Lord knit us together in a way that made it clear He was preparing us to work together for His Kingdom and glory—advancing the mission of NCC. Dave didn’t just ask me to serve; he passionately described the Clinic’s purpose, vision, and unwavering commitment to the Lord’s work through healthcare professionals.”

In late summer 2023, Paul officially joined the board.

Where Faith and Healthcare Meet

“The Clinic’s mission resonates with me because it is both practical and aspirational,” Paul explains. “We meet tangible needs—healing bodies, igniting hope, and showing patients the compassionate care of a loving God. At the same time, we share the Gospel and train healthcare professionals to confidently do the same in their own practices, multiplying the impact far beyond our walls.”

Paul describes this as “whole person care—meeting the medical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and eternal needs of each person.” He sees this as the heart of the Clinic’s work: “We’re not just addressing the medical needs of today, but the spiritual needs that impact eternity.”

Why My Time Belongs Here

“More people must know Jesus—today. More people must experience His love through His ambassadors. Every worthy cause must be shepherded with compassion, understanding, and discernment in God’s will, found in His Word. My service at NCC is about protecting, preserving, and pursuing God’s plan while using my gifts to benefit the mission and glorify Him.”

Equipping for Impact Beyond Our Walls

Paul is especially passionate about NCC’s training program for healthcare providers. “When our curriculum trains and equips healthcare providers, they don’t just share their faith while volunteering here,” he explains. “They carry those skills back to their own practices—confidently and compassionately sharing the Gospel with their own patients. That’s spiritual duplication, and it’s part of fulfilling the Great Commission.”

Impact That Reaches Today and Eternity

“At NCC, we serve the underserved, share the Gospel without compromise, and equip healthcare professionals to extend that same model of care wherever God sends them. By His grace, we make a meaningful difference in the lives we touch today and an eternal difference for those who come to faith in Christ. A gift to the Clinic is an investment in God’s people doing His work with humility, compassion, and obedience.”

As Paul puts it: “A dollar into the Clinic is an investment into the eternity of God’s great work.”
