For over 16 years, Dr. Griggs has faithfully served as a Christian medical volunteer at The Neighborhood Christian Clinic, providing faith-based healthcare to Phoenix’s uninsured and underserved. After retiring from a career in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary/Critical Care, he found renewed purpose by meeting both the physical and spiritual needs of patients. “I’ve gained far more than I’ve given,” he says. Fidel stands on a Phoenix street corner, Bible in hand, offering a meal to a homeless man. His warm smile hides the scars of his past-both seen and unseen.
When people think of a non-profit medical clinic serving the uninsured, a God-fearing man in need of a helping hand-may not be who comes to mind. But The Neighborhood Christian Clinic (NCC) serves people from all walks of life – people like Fidel.
A former Mexican narcotics officer, his body bears the marks of service and sacrifice. Since coming to the U.S., he has endured multiple heart attacks, undergone several surgeries, and lives with ongoing heart disease that threatens his future. Lacking insurance, those surgeries have cost him nearly every dollar that comes through his hands.
Yet, his deepest wounds aren’t physical. Fidel is the sole survivor of his six siblings, all lost to tragic circumstances. And still, like Job, Fidel has never cursed God. True to his name-Fidel, meaning “faithful”-he has never lost faith.

What happens when you put two incredibly talented dentists, a passion for serving others, and a whole lot of heart under one roof? You get Dr. Allison Ghan and Dr. Victor Vellon, the dynamic duo leading the Neighborhood Christian Clinic’s expanding Dental Program.
“People think of dentistry as just cleanings and cavities, but it’s so much more than that,” says Dr. Vellon. “When we fix someone’s smile, we’re not just treating teeth—we’re helping someone eat without pain, feel confident in a job interview, and laugh freely with their loved ones.”
Now, they’re dreaming bigger than ever—expanding services, upgrading technology, and ensuring NCC’s dental program reaches more people in need. With advanced procedures, modern equipment, and a vision for the future, Dr. Ghan and Dr. Vellon are set to take compassionate, faith-based dentistry to the next level.

Would you like to learn more about TNCC? We offer tours including snacks to introduce interested individuals to the Clinic. If you are a potential volunteer, a donor, or just curious, please join us on the third Monday of any month for a one hour tour. The tour begins at 5:00 PM.
