“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” — 1 Corinthians 16:13 (ESV)
Every November, men across the country grow mustaches or skip shaving — all for a good cause. Movember and No-Shave November may look lighthearted on the surface, but beneath the whiskers lies a serious message: men’s health matters.
At the Neighborhood Christian Clinic, we see firsthand how easy it can be for men to put off care. Life is busy. Work is demanding. Many of our patients are day laborers — men who rise before sunrise, spend long hours in factories, on construction sites, or landscaping under the Arizona sun. They’re hardworking, faithful providers who often push through pain rather than pause for help. But too often, that delay means missing early signs of heart disease, diabetes, or prostate cancer.
This month, we’re reminding the men in our community: taking care of your health isn’t a sign of weakness — it’s a sign of wisdom.
God designed the body as a temple of His Spirit, and caring for it is an act of stewardship. When men invest in their health, they also invest in their families, their ministries, and their futures.
Five Ways to Take Charge of Your Health This November
-
Schedule Your Checkup.
Don’t wait until something hurts. Preventive care is the best gift you can give your family — and yourself. -
Get Your Prostate Screening.
One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Early detection saves lives. -
Check Your Heart.
High blood pressure and cholesterol often have no symptoms until it’s too late. -
Take Care of Your Mind.
Depression and anxiety affect men too. It’s not unmanly to ask for help — it’s courageous. Talk to someone. Pray with someone. You are not alone. -
Be a Role Model.
When men prioritize health, sons, nephews, and grandsons notice. Your faithfulness can shape generations.
At the Clinic, we’re grateful for the many men who serve as volunteers, providers, and patients — men who live out their faith by showing up, giving back, and staying strong for the people who depend on them.
So, this November, whether you grow a mustache or not, remember what it represents: a commitment to live strong, stay faithful, and take care of the body God gave you.
