Affordable Women’s Healthcare for Uninsured Women in Phoenix

October 26, 2026 | Faith Based Healthcare, Health, Stories

For women without health insurance, routine healthcare can quickly become something that gets pushed aside.

When an appointment or screening competes with rent, groceries, utilities, and the needs of a family, waiting can seem like the only realistic option. But preventive women’s healthcare can identify concerns before symptoms appear and, in some cases, before they become much more serious.

The Neighborhood Christian Clinic (NCC) provides affordable healthcare for uninsured and underserved women in the Phoenix community.

When Cost Causes Women to Delay Care

Elena was 33 years old and raising three young children when she came to NCC for a women’s health visit and Pap screening.

She wasn’t expecting the screening to uncover a serious concern. But the results revealed severely abnormal cervical cells that could have progressed into cervical cancer if left untreated.

NCC immediately began helping Elena access the follow-up care she needed.

A volunteer gynecology team from Mayo Clinic performed additional testing, which confirmed treatment was necessary. NCC’s care coordination team then worked with a community surgical partner to arrange a LEEP procedure.

When additional abnormal tissue was discovered, Elena underwent a second procedure.

Today, Elena continues to receive follow-up care, but her doctors believe the abnormal cells were caught before they became cancer.

Preventive Women’s Healthcare Matters

Elena’s experience demonstrates why routine women’s healthcare can be so important.

Some health concerns do not cause noticeable symptoms in their early stages. Recommended screenings can give healthcare providers an opportunity to identify changes, investigate them, and coordinate treatment when necessary.

But for uninsured women, simply getting that first appointment can be a significant hurdle.

NCC works to make care more accessible so that cost does not have to be the reason a woman continues putting off an important health concern or screening.

More Than a Single Appointment

Elena needed more than her initial screening. She needed additional testing, specialists, procedures, and continued follow-up.

Through volunteer healthcare professionals, care coordination, and community medical partners, NCC helps connect patients with additional care when their needs extend beyond what can be provided during an initial Clinic visit.

That network can make an enormous difference for someone without insurance who might otherwise have no idea where to turn next.

Healthcare That Cares for the Whole Person

Women who come to NCC are treated as more than a diagnosis.

NCC’s approach to Whole Person Care recognizes physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Patients are listened to, treated with dignity, and, when they desire it, offered prayer and spiritual encouragement.

For Elena, that spiritual support became part of her experience as well. She shared her gratitude for the prayers, encouragement, and kindness she received throughout her treatment and said her relationship with God was growing stronger.
